Conectiv Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Pepco Holdings, Inc, manages power plants and buys and sells fuel and energy in the wholesale marketplace.

Conectiv operates in what is what is known as the "deregulated" energy industry. Briefly, this means that while Conectiv's business is regulated by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), it is not regulated by state commissions in the way that traditional utilities are.
